A fresh start

Wow, I did not realise how long it had been since the first post.

Nearly five years ago I expressed a wish about relocating...and nearly five years later not only am I in the same country, but I am in the same home.

Well that will be changing at least as tonight we signed the lease to a bigger home.

Yesterday though I said to my partner that we have spent too much time wasting about thinking about doing something, but actually doing nothing about it.

I said to him that we need to set a time limit of five years and look to actually do something in that. It will either be a move up to the far north of Scotland or moving abroad.

Others have managed it, so I do not see why we cannot manage it.

Though I think I will really have to pester him as he is a worst procrastinator than what I am.

So for now what I am planning on doing is while I am in the process of moving house:

• Both of us are going to make a list of the countries that we would like to live on and get one that we can both agree on (as much as I would like to live in France, my partner really does not seem interested at all) He would like to live in Australia and he has family that might be able to help us out, but I am not sure about that either.
• On the list we are to point out the pros and cons about moving there. 
• Look at eachothers list and work out where we both want to move to.
• Create a moving fund and starts saving money (moving will be expensive)

I think that if we can make the joint decisiojn about where we will move to then it will make it easier to make a target and actually make a move toward it. Up till now I have just been thinking about the idea, rather than actually doing something about it.

Recently I have had thoughts about moving to France.

I have realised that moving to Canada is too difficult at the moment.

Somewhere in Europe is more attainable for us.

However talking with my partner tonight he mentioned that he would like to move to Bavaria.

I like the sound of that a lot.

Now I just need to work out how we can actually make this a reality.

The 29th

This date only comes around once every four years.

I wonder where I will be when the next 29th February comes around.

I will make some plans for what I should be doing. I am not sure I will be able to do anything until my partner has finished college.

However, I can be prepared for when he does.

I need to make out a list of all the things that I need to find out about (finding a home, moving stuff, changing schools, changing Sky, telephone etc.)

So where am I at with my relocation.

Answer, Oops nowhere different to where I was before.

However in my defense, there is not a lot I can do at the moment as until my partner finishes college anything could happen.

We could plan on moving to a place, my partner then could be offered a job somewhere different so the plans would have to change.

My friend is leaving

For Canada next Wednesday.

I think it is at these times that the urge to move increases. It is the same for my friends friend. We were talking about it on her last night out. She was thinking about that many of her friends were moving and I think she would like to join them.

I think that in the short term a move to the north will be the easiest to do. Then I can think about where we will go from there.

I am still thinking about Canada. My partner has also bee talking about moving there. I now need to start looking into the best way to move across. There is the permanent visa way, but that is difficult. There must be another way. That is what I need to find out.

Still no nearer

To knowing where we will move next. I am ready to move in the next few years.

New name

I have decided to change the name of this blog from moving to Canada or Australia to Relocating (though I am not too happy with that so I think that will be changed again as soon as I have thought of something)

I am 99% sure that we will not be moving to Australia. I have no desire to move there and I do not have the reasons that my partner has.

I think the first move will be to the highlands. So for now I need to start working out where and when we will move. A lot of the move will depend on my partner getting a job. Unfortunately until then there is not a lot that I can do.

Google street view

I have been looking at Google street view recently (I decided to have a look at the house that my friend will be moving into) I then decided to put in some Canadian locations.

I was not able to look around the places in Quebec that I was interested in finding out about (hopefully they get street view at some point) however I was able to look around Pictou, Antigonish and New Glasgow.

Pictou was so cute from what I saw. the homes looked lovely and it just seemed a nice place. The same is for Antigonish. I think I will have another explore around them. However I was surprised by New Glasgow. It seems lovely. I have not looked at the houses, but the shopping center looks good. I think it would be good to get a place that has easy access, I could then have the advantage of living in a small town but having access to good shopping.

I am going to try and take some screen shots.

I am so please that I have been able to do this as at the moment there is no way that I could afford to go across to Canada to find out what it is really like. At least I am able to see what it looks like and be able to move around thanks to the 3D style of how it has been put together.

I think I will have to have a look around places in Scotland as well.

Goals for 2011

This is what I want to achieve in 2011:

1. Find out how much homes are to rent in the north and rental agencies.
2. Find out any property papers for the north.
3. Find out places Online where I can learn Gaelic.
4. Compile any informations that I have got about moving to Canada into one place for ease of finding it.
5. Once informations about Canada has been compiled find out what else I need to find out.

Another year has passed and...

I still have not moved anywhere.

I set myself challenges for this year though. However I forgot about them so I will have a look through and see if I actually managed any of them.

• Work out different ways in which I will be able to make it across to Canada.

• Research how my partner will be able to get a job as a ranger and if there is anything else that he will need to get.

• Find out any useful information about Canada such as Education system, health system, taxes, utilities, recycling schemes, public transport etc

I have found some websites but I have not spent much time actually reading them (I just found them)

• Find out what kinds of visas are available and how to apply for a permanent visa. 

I have not done this.

• Find out how self employment affects my chances of getting across.

I have not done this.

• Find out how I can continue to pay outstanding bills once I have moved across.

I have not done this.

• Find out how moving affects any long term insurance that I have got.

I have not done this.


LOL I have not done well at all with my list. Though in my defense I have not got any actual plans to move so I can very easily put off finding out things like that as they are not really needed. I am sure that once the time comes when I actually need to find it out I could get found out in a very short time.

I do think that for next years goals I need to set myself some relevant goals. I doubt that a move to Canada will be happening next year, however I would like to relocate to the north of Scotland. I think that while I need to include research about moving to Canada I should base the majority of it around moving within Scotland.

I have had a funky day here. Even though we have not had any snow today it has still been lovely to see the snow on the ground.

I think I have pretty much decided that I do not want to live in Australia.. I think I need to change the title of this blog to reflect that.

Right at this moment I am not really sure where I do want to live. I would still like to live in Canada, but I still so not know where about. Ideally I would go out there and take a road trip to gain some idea of what it is like there. Now I just need to work on making that happen.

Pendulum predictions

September goals

I think that when I get the chance this month I should look at how we are going to be able to move up north.

I need to find out the rental price of properties in various locations and the cost of hiring out a van to get stuff up there. We would have to rent it out for a few days so that we can get everything up (we will be limited to the size van that we will be able to take up and I know that we will not be able to fit it all in a large van)

Been ill

I set myself a goal for last month and I have still not done it.

I was lazy in July which was why I did nothing then but I was ill in August so that was why I have done it this month.

I think I am going to have to rename this Blog again though. I would like to include my hoped for move to the north. That is more achievable at the moment and it is something that we can do in the next two years. I am hoping that once my partner has finished college next year we can start planning to make the move. Ideally we would be making the move next summer when the younglings are off school.
